My Beaverslide roving arrived! Two pounds of 90% merino/10% fine kid mohair roving in Mountain Midnight.

Isn’t it beautiful? It’s not as finely processed as other rovings I’ve seen in the past - there are a lot of nups and such. I don’t mind, though. I’m planning on spinning it into a 3 ply worsted weight yarn, and the little samples I’ve done come out looking nice and a little textured, but not messy.

I can’t start spinning it for real right away, though, because I was unable to wait for it to arrive before starting a new spinning project. When The Yarn Harlot posted about cabled yarns a while ago, I was immediately overcome with the urge to spin one Right Away. So I divided the remainder of my green merino top (the one you spent all summer looking at) into four piles and got started.

That’s the first bobbin. I’m a bit into the second one now. Those two will be very tightly (over)plied together, then I’ll spin the other half of the fiber into another overplied strand, then ply those two together. So much plying! But the result will be awesome. I’m hoping it’ll be a heavy fingering weight, but it’ll probably turn out heavier than that. I do want to make socks with it, though. Cabled yarns are very durable. And I have about 140g of fiber, so there should be enough unless something goes terribly wrong.

Mmm, spinning. I will do so much of it over spring break. I’m not doing anything exciting this year, just going home for two weeks (the two weeks after next week) and relaxing. It will be great.

(Also, I know I’m not supposed to be buying any more yarn, because I have enough for now, but when Webs has Silky Wool closeout colors I actually like for $3.49/skein, I don’t know anyone can expect me to hold back.)
