Okay okay
Wednesday, July 30th, 2008Been a long time, so I’m sorry to say I have nothing terribly exciting to bring you. Just these socks, which I finished a while ago and haven’t gotten around to posting about yet.
Pattern: Improvised!
Yarn: Noro Kureyon Sock in color S95.
Needles: Grafton Fibers Darn Pretty DPN’s, US2 (I play favorites with my needles, and these win every time).
Not a ton to say about these. I wanted to do something a little different with the yarn, so I decided to knit in stripes of two rows, each set from a ball started at a different place in the color sequence. I wish I could take credit for the fact that the two socks have almost identical coloring, but it was a complete coincidence. Fate is on my side yet again.
I lot of people seem to not like this yarn very much, and I can see why. It’s very thin in some places and very thick in others, it’s not very soft, and it’s a singles (weaker than a plied yarn). It has its charms, though. I would never use it as my go-to sock yarn, but it was nice to use something a little different. Also, the advantage to a singles yarn is AMAZING yardage. This 100g skein had 462 yards, on which these socks used slightly more than half (55g). That means I had lots of room to play around with color sequencing and make sure I didn’t get yellow and gray striping together (ick). It also allows types of knitting that use more yarn, such as the stranding featured in this totally awesome variation on the Noro Sock striping idea in the current issue of Knitty.
As I mentioned before, pleasant developments in other areas of my life (boyfriend!) have left less time for yarn and blogging, thus the two silent weeks. Don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll get back to it eventually.
